Pounding the pavement can put a lot of stress and strain on your body, but luckily – as your Manchester running coach will surely tell you – there are an awful lot of products out there that can help you before, during and after a run to ensure you stay fighting fit and alive to run another day.

No doubt you’ve come across compression socks on your travels as a runner, but are they worth wearing and can they prove useful on the road? Some people really do swear by them and say that they actually help them run faster and more efficiently, so they could be worth a try if you’re looking for a personal best and feel you’ve hit a wall.

You’ll feel a difference between these socks and the usual ones you might wear as the fabric is incredibly strong and will squeeze you around the calf in order to compress the veins on the surface of your leg, as well as your arteries and muscles.

If you struggle with pain, tightness or cramping in your lower legs, you may well find that compression socks help ease your symptoms and make you enjoy your running even more than you already do.

It’s thought they can improve circulation, increase blood flow and even improve your recovery after a long run. While they may not work for everyone, giving them a go certainly won’t hurt and you might be pleasantly surprised by the results. Let us know if you’ve given them a go and how you think they’ve changed the way you run.
