If you read my first blog post at the start of the month (January), you’ll know that my winning parkrun ambitions didn’t quite get off to the start I had in mind, what with being very, very early, injuring myself a little and having to bow out early…

I had hoped that would be the end of my run of bad luck but the first few weeks of January have not been kind and I’ve had to deal with a broken oven and a kitchen that has flooded not once, not twice but three whole times! So what with life admin and waiting for drains to be vacuumed, running has had to go on the back burner.

But I live to fight another day and I found myself on the Stretford parkrun starting line on Saturday (January 25th), ready and raring to go.

Well, sort of… I clearly still need to work on my organisational skills, as I forgot my running belt so had to run with my car key in my sports bra (rather uncomfortable, not recommended) and with my phone up my sleeve (my resident Manchester running training expert Alex says not to run holding anything).  I did, however, remember my barcode so we’re getting there gradually bit by bit. Come next Saturday, I’ll have everything I need with me, I’m sure… third time’s a charm, so I’ve heard.

Regardless of slight forgetfulness, I made it the whole way around the course this time and my knee injury didn’t manifest itself. I finished in 30 minutes 26 seconds, according to my Fitbit, and 30 minutes 22 seconds according to parkrun, so we’ll go with the latter since it’s quicker. My first personal best!

We’ve been working on me running mid-foot in my running training sessions in Manchester and I can definitely feel the difference in my  legs after I’ve finished running. I’ve been on the foam roller since yesterday and I’m still pretty achy… but I love a bit of gym ache, it lets me know I’ve tried! Hopefully all this mid-foot malarkey will pay dividends next Saturday and I’ll shave some seconds off my time.

What I do think really helped me was listening to music while running… anyone got any favourite running songs they’d like to share?
